An Idris Frigate Flying Formation in Star Citizen

Cloud Imperium Games released a new and extensive video showcasing Star Citizen's upcoming capital ship, the Aegis Dynamics Idris.

The Idris is a frigate capable of carrying up to three light carriers and a utility shuttle. It's 242 meters long and it's designed for a crew of 28 players.

The video shows it in detail, from the hangar to its living spaces, and even the bridge. Interestingly, it's designed to be a massive FPS level, in case of boarding. That's exactly what a recent event in the game showcased

While the ship was flyable during the event, it isn't complete yet, so it won't be delivered to players in normal gameplay for a while longer.

It's also very relevant to the single-player campaign of Star Citizen, Squadron 42, which we recently heard that it's now feature-complete and in polish phase before it's finally released. Many speculate that we'll finally get a release date at the next CitizenCon in October, but that remains just speculation for now.

You can watch the Idris below and hear directly from the developers how it was created. Interestingly, it isn't even the biggest ship planned for Star Citizen, as larger ones are in development. It's just the first capital warship.

Funnily, the video also shows a scene involving the shuttle that Aliens fans will likely recognize.

Star Citizen is a crowdfunded game currently in development exclusively for PC following a Kickstarter campaign in 2012. Yet, crowdfunding has continued even after the end of the campaign as the scope of the project massively increased.

Its fans have pledged $667,897,940 in funding with 5,102,801 registered users. That being said, that's not representative of the number of paying users, as many create accounts for free to enjoy the Free Fly events.

Yet, Star Citizen just had the biggest year of its crowdfunding history, having received over $117.5 million in pledges in 2023.
