Characters Created in Star Citizen

Today Cloud Imperium Games released a new video showcasing the brand-new character customization suite coming soon to Star Citizen.

This feature will be released in Alpha 3.23, which is tentatively scheduled for April 2023, alongside many other highly anticipated features.

It's no mystery that the character customization included in Star Citizen until now was very barebones, while functional, it didn't give much power to actually customize a character to one's liking. This will change radically with the new system.

Picking the skin color and texture in Star Citizen

The new system adds onto the previous system by including many more preset faces (scanned from real people) to blend between, but that's just scratching the surface, as players can now sculpt manually various elements of each face.

On top of that, there are tons of options for hair and even fabulous facial hair, which is often a very weak spot for character creation in MMOs and even single-player RPGs.

That hair can be dyed in a very granular and detailed way with a full RGB selection, and of course, you also have plenty of options for skin color and texture.

Makeup has always gotten an overhaul and it's not baked into the skin anymore, but instead, you can select various options, colors, intensity, and effects for eyes, cheeks, and lips.

Another very welcome functionality is the ability to save, load, and even share your creation. That means that you won't have to create your character from scratch anymore every time there is a reset.

A relevant element is that, while impressive, is only the beginning, as in future updates we'll get tattoos, piercings, stubble, and more eye settings.

You can watch the video below.

In addition to this, we also get a trailer for Stella Fortuna, which is basically the St. Patrick's Day event in Star Citizen. It comes with the inevitable green skins for ships, the ability to win a decorative coin in-game, and ship sales.

Star Citizen is currently in ongoing development exclusively for PC. It's a crowdfunded game that has gathered a massive $669,409,423 in funding with 5,110,954 registered users.

It's always worth mentioning that the number is not representative of paying customers, as many just register an account to try the game out during Free Fly Events.

That being said, the game just enjoyed the biggest year ever in its crowdfunding history. Its fans have pledged over $117.5 million in 2023.

While the currently playable part of the game is the online persistent universe, a single-player campaign titled Squadron 42 is also in development and we recently heard that it's now feature-complete.

A release date has not been announced just yet, but many speculate that it may be revealed at the next CitizenCon in October
