Square Enix has confirmed a pair of release dates for Romancing SaGa 3 and SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions, set for this winter. Romancing SaGa 3 will launch 24 years to the day from its original Japanese release, on November 11th. SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions will come just a short while later, on December 3rd. Romancing SaGa 3 is getting an HD update for modern consoles and computers, an entirely new dungeon, as well as new storylines and a "NEW GAME+" feature. SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions may be newer, releasing in Japan for the Vita in 2016, but is also getting some improved graphics, two new characters, voiceovers, "and more." Romancing SaGa 3 releases on November 11th for PS4, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, PC and mobile. Scarlet Grace Ambitions is set to go for Switch, PS4, PC and mobile on December 3rd.

Releasing for the first time in English, Romancing SaGa 3 saw several releases and re-releases in Japan prior to its localization. Winding together eight distinct stories, Romancing SaGa 3 is a tale of an apocalyptic eclipse, and a "child of destiny" that survives its hellish portents. The last eclipse was 15 years ago, and the world is waiting to see who, or what they become. Lauded for its innovative approach to battling, Romancing SaGa 3 splits battles between regular encounters, "Commander" battles where special techniques are unlocked, and large-scale war simulations.

SaGa: Scarlet Grace follows its predecessor's storytelling in similar fashion, using multiple characters in a nonlinear narrative. In an ancient realm, a once-powerful empire is in ruins following the defeat of a powerful god. Now, humans live and thrive despite attacks from magical monsters. Four strangers undertake separate journeys, each in search of something important to them. However, an old evil is awakening, and a new hero must rise to meet it.

The SaGa games have long prided themselves on offering player freedom, as well as nonlinear leveling. As you use spells and attacks with characters, they will get more adept at such abilities. The end result is a continually rewarding cycle of battling and improving. Both of the releases were revealed at E3 this year, and only just got a release date. You'll have your chance to see Romancing SaGa 3 and SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions in action for yourself on November 11th and December 3rd, respectively.
