Mojang and Microsoft are taking advantage of the incredible popularity of everyone's favorite block-building IP by bringing an all-new game in the Minecraft universe: say hello to Minecraft Legends.
Announced during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022, we saw the unveiling of Minecraft Legends, which is described as an "action strategy game." The world is under attack by forces from the Nether, with a trailer showing a massive horde of nefarious Piglins billowing out of a portal from the Nether. One hero -- that's you -- stands a chance at stopping this threat, and you'll use monsters from the overworld to help you. That's right, enemies like zombies, creepers, and more are now your friends as you strategically command them to fight a new threat. Below is a trailer for Minecraft Legends, which is sure to instill some vigor into heroes ready to defend the world they've spent so many hours within!
We see elements of an open world, lite base-building, and strategic gameplay in this undeniably voxelly world. Minecraft Legends promises to have other signature elements the series is known for such as resource collecting and is home to many different biomes. In the trailer, we see lush plains, arid badlands, and we can expect much more as well.
Minecraft Legends is set to launch in 2023. Like other first-party titles for Xbox, it's coming to the Game Pass service on launch and will be available on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S platforms, as well as Windows. Interestingly, Blackbird Interactive is listed as a co-developer for this projects -- they are no stranger to strategy titles, having worked on 2016's Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. Nor are they new to Minecraft, as they were also co-developers on mobile game Minecraft Earth.
Stay tuned for more information and get ready to defend the overworld!
