Report: Mass Effect: Andromeda Won't Receive Single-Player DLC

Three people close to Mass Effect: Andromeda have told Kotaku that there will not be any single-player DLC for the game. This does not mean that Andromeda will see no DLC coming its way in the future, just that it seems to not be a story-driven, single-player experience.

This would break a trend that has existed since the very first Mass Effect game. Each game has had multiple single-player DLCs after their original respective games released. The singleplayer content ranged from story missions and new areas to explore that may only take an hour or so of your time to something like Mass Effect 3's Citadel, which should take a good five or so hours.

We can take a look at Mass Effect 3, the only previous Mass Effect game with multiplayer, for some hints at how Andromeda's DLC will be handled in the multiplayer department as well. Mass Effect 3 had multiple DLCs for its multiplayer, which included maps, weapons, characters, ammo, and more. Seeing as Andromeda has yet to have any DLC, aside from the pre-order bonuses, we can probably assume it will follow a similar model of Mass Effect 3, without the singleplayer DLC of course. You can read up on some of Mass Effect: Andromeda's best weapons in multiplayer here.

Quick Take

Not the best sign for Andromeda, particularly in how at least EA views the game. Mass Effect has always been first and foremost a narrative-driven series, so it does not bode well for Andromeda when the likely planned single-player DLC has been scrapped. I wouldn't be too worried about the future of the series, as the name still carries enough weight to be viable at least one more time. It takes a good bit to burn people enough before they won't return to something they've loved in the past.

What do you think of Mass Effect: Andromeda having no singleplayer DLC? Have you been playing Andromeda's multiplayer? What are your thoughts on that?
