Far Cry 3 is one of Ubisoft’s most successful games, arguably the high point of the Far Cry series. Building immensely on the mechanics of the previous games, the third entry invigorated what is now a bi-annual franchise. As such, it is no wonder that Ubisoft has chosen to re-release this game shortly after the launch of Far Cry 5, which has recently received a very favorable review from TechRaptor’s Samuel Guglielmo.

The label of ‘Classic Edition’ rather than a more typical ‘Enhanced’ or ‘Remastered,’  relates to the content this edition contains. It is a compilation of the game’s single-player content, with updated visuals (comparable to high settings on the PC version), but none of the multiplayer or co-op content.

Far Cry 5’s season pass also provides access to three pieces of DLC, Hours of Darkness, Dead Living Zombies and Lost on Mars, taking the player from war-torn Vietnam to Martian Arachnid-infested Mars - these add-ons appearing to have varying levels of the brand of insanity this series is known for. Far Cry 3 is considered one of, if not the, best iterations of the series’ mixture of open worlds, interconnecting game systems, diverse gameplay opportunities and a charismatic villain that it has become known for under Ubisoft. This release will be welcomed by many series fans, particularly those who have purchased the Far Cry 5 Season Pass.
