THQ Nordic has announced that a remastered version of Red Faction: Guerrilla is making its way to PC and consoles this year. The new version, dubbed Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, will arrive in Q2 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will have fully reworked graphics, improved shadow rendering, improved lighting, shader & postprocessing rework and native 4k support (though specific platforms have not been detailed).
Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. The game puts an emphasis on environmental destruction, equipping the player with a huge sledgehammer which they can use to knock down entire buildings. The game originally launched all the way back in 2009 on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 to favorable reviews. It was developed by Volition, who also created Saints Row and more recently, Agents of Mayhem.
Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Edition will also revive the game's multiplayer component which saw players facing off, using the game's excessively destructible environments as a backdrop to the action-packed combat.
It's also not clear as to which studio is developing the remaster and no further details are given as to the exact release date, or for the consoles the game will be launching in 4K on, with THQ Nordic stating in a press release:
"More information on the release date will be announced in due time."This announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that THQ Nordic has struck a deal with Nickelodeon to bring back a number of licensed games to modern platforms. These titles include Avatar: The Last Airbender, Danny Phantom and more.
