As announced by Idea Factory International earlier this week, Record of Agarest War Mariage is coming to Steam in "early 2019." The announcement was posted on the Idea Factory developer page, as well as on basically all their games. Previously only available for Japanese PSPs, the Steam port will offer subtitles in English, Japanese, and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese. While the existing Record of Agarest war games are strategy RPGs mixed with visual novel elements, Record of Agarest War Mariage is a more traditional turn-based RPG, though still packing the visual novel mechanics. You'll be able to play Record of Agarest War Mariage on Steam sometime early next year.
Much like other Agarest War games, Mariage is concerned with defeating an ancient evil using generations of heroes. Well before the events of Agarest War Mariage, the Sacred Princess fell in love with a human. Ostracized and eventually martyred for her actions, the heavens cast her out, allowing the Archdemon to rise up in her place. Now, young hero Rain was chosen at birth to defeat the Archdemon by any means necessary. It'll take more than one generation of heroes to overthrow an ancient evil, so you must court potential wives and establish a family of heroes.
As mentioned above, Record of Agarest War Mariage eschews the series's blend of strategy and visual novel mechanics in favor of a more traditional RPG setup. At first glance, it seems to be a mix of Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom and Persona 3, with a healthy serving of Idea Factory's trademark fanservice. Still, Idea Factory's announcement this week comes as a surprise as the official website for Mariage hasn't been updated since 2012. There's no word if the PC port will come with any additional enhancements, though based on Idea Factory's ports of other games to PC, this seems unlikely. We'll see more of Record of Agarest War Mariage before its release early next year.
