During the PC Gaming Show 2019 conference this Monday, we saw a new trailer for Chucklefish's and Ominux Games' Starmancer. As we predicted in our article last week, Starmancer was one of the titles that we were sure to show at the PC Gaming Show. This is a colony management sim inspired by Dwarf Fortress, with a typical pixelated art style that you would expect from Chucklefish's games. Ominux Games has been developing Starmancer for four years, but only recently did they move to full-time development.

In Starmancer, Earth is ruined, as usual. That's why you are in space, to build a space base in a strange new solar system, manage your colonists, give them jobs and missions, and obviously try to keep everyone alive. However, you will also have to deal with space pirates, because life is never that easy. And it's not just about trying to protect your colonists, as you actually play as an advanced AI-human hybrid. Although you're mostly machine, you still have to protect your physical human parts from harm, sometimes from the colonists themselves.

Starmancer aims for a similar complexity as Dwarf Fortress, so there's a lot you'll be managing: machine wiring and power grids, oxygen, food, and water, relationships with other factions, and obviously your colonists' needs and wants, each with their own personalities and quirks. The solar system in Starmancer is randomly generated in each game you play, so there will be no shortage of planets, moons, and space stations to explore.

Starmancer is currently in closed beta, which you can get access to by pre-ordering the closed alpha build for $35. The game will release on PC, Mac, and Linux, but there's no release window yet. You can find more information about the game on the official website.
