Northgard Gets New Trailer and Information

Published: August 9, 2016 8:44 PM /

Earlier today, Northgard got its first trailer, showing off some gameplay, lore, and new features that players can expect from the game.

A Steam page was also released, with the Steam page giving a description that gives further details into the story and the gameplay mechanics.

These mechanics include allowing the player to build their own settlement in the continent of Northgard while assigning their vikings to various jobs, (such as Farmer, Warrior, Sailor, and Loremaster). Said jobs helps lead into the micromanagement of the players' gathered resources, so that players can "survive the harsh winters and vicious foes" while also allowing players to conquer and explore new lands via "strategic opportunities". While exploring and conquering Northgard, players will be able to achieve the victory conditions in various ways (such as through Conquest, Fame, Lore, Trading). And finally, while playing Northgard, players will be able to play with their friends against an AI "with different difficulty levels and personalities."

The minimum system requirements were released as well and are linked below:

  • OS: Windows Vista or better
  • Processor: Intel 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo or equivalent
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia 260 GTS / Radeon HD 4850 or better
  • DirectX: Version 9.0
  • Storage: 150 MB available space

Northgard will be released later this year by developer Shiro Games.

Quick Take

Northgard looks promising, although all that's been released so far is just enough to whet my appetite, rather then do anything substantial to either quell or stoke the fires of hype. Still, the developer Shiro Games made Evoland 1 and 2, which is a good indicator that they at least know what they are doing and can be given some trust to make good of their claims. However, will that trust amount to anything other then disappointment? We'll see later this year.

A very unflattering picture of my tired face.
