Much like Christmas perpetually being around the corner, so is the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The yearly trade show in Los Angeles opened the gates to the public, making the E3 way more attracted to traveling to the Los Angeles Convention Center.

This is, however, not the case for Nintendo. Speaking to investors during their recent financial meeting, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that "We will not be hosting a large-scale press conference for institutional investors, analysts, and the media".

While this is hardly a surprise since Nintendo hasn't had an actual press conference at E3 in a while, one might reasonably assume that the Japanese gaming giant will have some sort of a presence at this year's E3. What we know at the time of writing this is that they will be hosting a Splatoon 2 tournament in LA this year.

Even though Nintendo won't have a press conference, it's likely that the company will have something to announce to support the recent release of the Nintendo Switch. Whatever it is is anyone's guess at this point, but according to Nintendo of America's Reggie-Fils-Aime the company is working on something "big" for the 2017 E3. In addition to this, Fils-Aime has said that they will be "showcasing a variety of games" during the E3 period.

Another thing that might likely happen has to do with the announcement of the 2DS XL, which will be coming to European stores on July 28. The company has already gone on record saying that they fully plan on supporting the 3DS and 2DS despite the company's focus on launching the Switch.

Nintendo isn't the first company to withdraw from the trade show's floor, opting instead to organize separate events either online or in completely different venues.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
