Baldur's Gate 3 users on Xbox Series X|S have been experiencing loss of saved data due to a rather persistent glitch and a firmware update aims to fix it.
Announced by Larian Studios itself on X (formerly Twitter) the update attempts to preserve the player's saved data in the event of a loss of power.
If you want to make sure you have the right firmware, the version number is 2921.
That being said, in the responses to the announcement post, there are still several users reporting that the issue hasn't been fully fixed, so you may still want to follow the workaround steps Microsoft offered a while ago, described on our previous post on the issue.
Update 12/16/2023: Larian Studios' director of publishing Michael Douse took to X (formerly Twitter) to acknowledge that there are new reports of the issue, and mention that Larian is having to wait for a solution by Microsoft, because the problem is on the firmware's side.
We’re still looking into lingering save issues on Xbox. The most recent firmware should have solved it, though we do see new reports. We’re in a holding pattern at the moment, since it’s firmware side. Do keep your Xbox connected to the internet as much as you can.
Incidentally, Larian also released a hotfix patch fixing crashes, bugs, and progression-blocking issues as follows. Interestingly, it also brings the massive patch #5 to the Mac version of the game.

- Fixed a potential crash when a second player joins on split-screen.
- Allocated additional memory to fix a crash during the initial cloud sync on Xbox.
- Fixed a potential Xbox crash relating to DLCs.

- Fixed a potential crash.
- Fixed the DC for pickpocketing a container not accounting for the weight and value of the items inside the container.
- Fixed a potential blocker if the host disconnects their Xbox wireless controller while there is a virtual keyboard on screen.
- Fixed a possible crash when trading with NPCs in the Underdark while a party character is near a bibberbang.
- Fixed a potential crash when reloading a save that was done during a cinematic.
- Added a feature to serialize cross-save download and upload requests to avoid crashes on Xbox when multiple big saves are syncing simultaneously.
Baldur's Gate 3 is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a physical Deluxe Edition slated for release across all platforms in the first quarter of 2024.
