Nihon Falcom has just announced plans to port over the first two entries in its popular series The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, to the PS4. The company has also announced plans to release the fourth game in the series, following the release of Trails of Cold Steel III on September 28th in Japan.
Originally only available on PS3 and PS Vita, Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II were released in Japan in 2013 and 2014 respectively. The first game has since been ported to the PC and released with an English translation by XSEED Games, while a PC port of the second is reportedly in development and scheduled for release sometime in the near future.
Re-releasing the first two games in the series is no surprise, as the port will allow PS4 players to experience the entire story on one console. Given the massive cliffhanger that Trails of Cold Steel III ended on, the announcement of a fourth game has been hotly anticipated by fans. Both ports and the fourth game are expected to be out for PS4 in Japan by September 2018 according to company estimates.
The Trails of Cold Steel series is the third game arc in the Legend of Heroes: Trails sub-series that started with the release of Trails in the Sky in Japan in 2004. No word has come from Falcom as to whether they are looking to port the first two arcs to the PS4 as well. All previous entries are playable on the PS Vita and the Trails in the Sky series is available on the PS3. A Western release of the PS4 ports has also not been announced.
