Today beloved Tachikawa-based JRPG Developer Nihon Falcom announced that a new Tokyo Xanadu game is in the works.

The game is an action JRPPG and is planned for release in 2025 and doesn't have announced platforms or a precise date at the moment.

While specific platforms have not been announced, the press release confirms that it's a "consumer" title, which in the Japanese industry means it's a game for consoles.

The game is still set in the capital of Japan and tells the story of a group of young people who explore the otherworldly realm of Xanadu.

While it shares the same world view as the original Tokyo Xanadu, set in the capital city of Tokyo, the setting has been completely redesigned. As such, the project is being developed as a "completely new game" for which every mechanic has been created from scratch.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser trailer, which you can watch below.

If you're unfamiliar with Tokyo Xanadu, it originally launched only for PlayStation Vita in 2015. it was then ported to PS4 and PC respectively in 2016 and 2017 with the title Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ including new story content, characters, and features.

A Nintendo Switch version has been released last year in Japan and is coming in June 2024 to the west. If you'd like to read more about it, you can check out our review of the PS4 version

If the name Nihon Falcom doesn't ring a bell, they're primarily known for the Trails series and the Ys series, of which we're now waiting for The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak in July and Ys X: Nordics in the fall of 2024.

Both games have already been released in Japan, and the Trails series has already sped ahead with Trails through Daybreak 2 and a brand-new game titled Kai no Kiseki - Farewell, O Zemuria coming later this year in September.
