A trademark has been filed for Jurassic World Aftermath, but what exactly this game might be is a bit of a mystery.

Dino-centric fan site Jurassic Outpost reports that a trademark has been filed for the new game title. What's more, a web domain has also been secured under the same name.

We can be pretty certain that this is a trademark for a game and not a movie or an interpretive dance stage play; the trademark falls under the category of "Computer & Software Products & Electrical & Scientific Products." Odds are good that this is a game, but what kind of game is still up in the air.

There is, of course, the possibility that this would be some kind of sequel to the theme park simulator to Jurassic World Evolution, but Frontier Developments tends to lean towards developing DLC rather than launching a sequel only three years after its initial release.

Instead, Jurassic Outpost theorizes that this might be the new name for Jurassic World Survivor, a survival game taking place on Isla Nubar. While ARK may have the lead on dinosaur survival games, it certainly doesn't have the brand power that Jurassic Park brings to the table.

When is the Jurassic World Aftermath Release Date?

Seeing as this game was very recently trademarked and the domain was just purchased, I imagine that we're probably still a ways off from actually playing this game. As a general rule, studios tend to be pretty cautious about trademarking games well in advance of their release.

However, there are several other things to consider. Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled to release on June 11, 2021, so it stands to reason that the game would come out around that time to benefit from the film's hype.

In any case, I think we're still a good year away at least until we get to see Aftermath. In the meantime, you can get your dinosaur fix by playing Jurassic World Evolution on Steam.

What do you think the next Jurassic World game will be about? Are you going to see the next film in theaters? Let us know in the comments below!
