Today is a sad day for Metal Slug fans, as Dotemu has just announced a Metal Slug Tactics delay, pushing the highly anticipated upcoming turn-based strategy game back to 2023. Obviously this is not ideal, but if a Metal Slug Tactics delay means we're eventually getting a good game that's all that matters, right?
It's been a year since Metal Slug Tactics was first announced during the 2021 Summer Game Fest, and there hasn't been too much info released since. Combined with the delay, that means this neat-looking title is likely at least a half year out. It'll be fine, I promise, especially if Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp ever decides to come out. If that game doesn't come out this year I'll be forced to go back and play Wargroove again, which actually doesn't sound like too bad of an idea the more I think about it.
What can I expect from Metal Slug Tactics?
Metal Slug Tactics is the latest entry in the long-running Metal Slug series. This time around things are a little bit different from the traditional run'n'gun formula that Metal Slug fans know and love, as the game is also now a dynamic tactical RPG with roguelike elements.
Players will be able to build up their adrenaline bar to unlock super attacks that can devastate their foes. Experience can also be gained after each battle, and weapons and bonus perks can be unlocked to upgrade your team's firepower. With that firepower, you'll be able to unleash simultaneous attacks and heavy artillery on those that are bold enough to stand in your way.
If you're looking for something else to play in the meantime that gives you Metal Slug vibes, be sure to check out Blazing Chrome, or maybe other Dotemu titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge and Streets of Rage 4.
