Nintendo has confirmed that the new Pokémon form revealed earlier this week will be event exclusive.

According to CoroCoro, a monthly Japanese manga magazine that often covers Pokémon news, the new Lycanroc-Dusk form will be made available only as an event Pokémon in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Previously, it was reported by the Pokémon website that the new form couldn't be obtained by ordinary methods.

Fan website Serebii has also updated the details on the new form. Lycanroc-Dark is a pure Rock-type like it's other forms, and when it does attack, it's green eyes glow red, similar to the Midnight form, "as it unleashes its fighting spirit." The CoroCoro report did not divulge any other information in regards to in-game stats or abilities at this time.

Lycanroc is the 4th confirmed Pokemon to receive a new form for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and is the second Pokémon to be an event exclusive, behind special Pikachu forms that all wear Ash’s hats from the anime. Those Ash hat Pikachu's are currently only distributed in Japan.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will be released on November 17th, 2017 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Quick Take

I am actually really surprised that Lycanroc-Dusk is an event exclusive. Nintendo has done this in the past with several new forms before, but usually with special editions like the aforementioned Pikachu and for legendary Pokémon. Otherwise new forms for Pokémon are usually available in-game in some capacity, either through an item or in-game events.

That all being said, Lycanroc was one of my favorite new Pokémon in Sun and Moon, and seeing it get some love with a new form is good in my book. It definitely needed it, as both the Midday and Midnight forms were good but underwhelming for some people.

What are your thoughts on all of this though? Leave your comments below.
