Ambitious-looking Kickstarted RPG Little Devil Inside has re-emerged after over two years of radio silence (and almost four years since the last Kickstarter update).
The last we heard from the game was back in October 2021, when it was featured as part of a Sony State of Play presentation. Its last Kickstarter update, in which developer Neostream celebrated the game's inclusion in the PS5 reveal event, was in June 2020.
Now, however, developer Neostream has posted a new update to the game's Kickstarter campaign page, titled "Despite all", featuring news on where Little Devil Inside's development is at right now.
In the update, Neostream says its core team is still working on Little Devil Inside, but that "many great people have come and gone" in the time since the last update, leaving Neostream back as a "smaller, bonded team".
The studio also apologizes for the lack of updates in the interim, acknowledging that the intent to make a great game "doesn't and shouldn't justify...all the delays and lack of news".
Neostream says that it's "stronger" for having "gone the long way around", and that the team is currently in discussions regarding a publisher for Little Devil Inside.
Once the publishing situation has been finalized, Neostream says it should be able to answer the questions backers want answered. The accompanying "Despite all" trailer is a collection of "gameplay clips representative of what [Neostream has] been working on" in Unreal Engine 5.
The trailer shows off a quaint-looking RPG with a very distinctive art style; think Little Nightmares meets Skyrim by way of SWERY's The Good Life and you're not a million miles away.
Little Devil Inside's Kickstarter was originally funded all the way back in 2015; the campaign page still promises a Wii U port and shows a graphic depicting the game's Steam Greenlight approval, which should give you an idea of the timespan we're dealing with.
Let's hope that this isn't the last we hear of Little Devil Inside for another two years. You can check out the game's Kickstarter campaign page if you're interested in learning more about it, and you can take a look at our (rather long in the tooth) interview with Neostream production head John Choi here.
