Kazuma Kiryu Reveals his illness in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Today Sega released a new gallery of screenshots and details about its upcoming and highly-anticipated JRPG Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Do keep in mind that this is pretty spoiler-driven, so you may want not to read if you'd like to go in completely blind, albeit Sega has been very public about it.

As you may already know one of the main plot points of the game is that Kazuma Kiryu is terminally ill, and his friends suggest that he create a bucket list of things he wants to accomplish before passing.

Gameplay-wise, this is split into three features, Life Links, Memoirs of a Dragon, and Unfinished Business. Focusing on these features will increase Kiryu's Soul, Tech, and Body parameters.

This will in turn increase Kiryu's Awakening level, which will strengthen his Dragon of Doijima fighting style.

Life Links are episodes kicked off by the reunion with Date, focusing on the current lives of old friends. New episodes are unlocked by increasing the Awakening level and some of the protagonists will actually end up helping out in combat as Poundmates.

Memoirs of a Dragon is an exploration mode prompting the player to visit places in Kamurocho and Isezaki Ijincho that will bring back memories.

Unfinished Business is a series of tasks that Kiryu wants to do before passing, including eating at a restaurant, singing karaoke, or beating some enemies. This also increases his Awakening level.

We also learn about some iconic real-life locations that we can visit when we're in Hawaii.

These include the ABC Stores convenience store chain, the 88 Tees apparel store, the 53 By the Sea restaurant, the Matsumoto Shave Ice dessert shop, and the Dean & Deluca gift shop.

You can check out all the screenshots below.

This is not all we get today, as Sega has also released a series of TV commercials focusing on Kazuma Kiryu, Ichiban Kasuga, and Koichi Adachi.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, will be released on January 26, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you're into physical media, you can pre-order a copy on Amazon.
