Square Enix shows off more of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: Final Chapter Prologue. What a mouthful...

The new entry in the Kingdom Hearts series is a bit of a misnomer, as what the game is is a compilation of several of the Kingdom Hearts side titles, specifically Dream Drop Distance, which gets a HD makeover. Also included in the package, however, are two new episodes-Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep- A Fragmented Passage, which is a playable game, and Kingdom Hearts X: Back Cover, which is a cinematic movie.

The majority of the trailer focuses on Birth By Sleep and Back Cover, with the protagonist of Birth By Sleep, Aqua one of the original keyblade users in the Kingdom Hearts universe, showing her fighting off the heartless in some rather gorgeous battle scenes. The battle mechanics still look smooth and polished for Kingdom Hearts, with the action-oriented combat continuing to shine for the series.

Back Cover it focuses on a group known as the Foretellers, a group of Keyblade Masters who were supposed to protect the world from darkness. The Foretellers were first introduced in Kingdom Hearts X, and Back Cover will take place during the events of that game.

One more piece of information from the trailer revealed Kingdom Hearts III will see a big reveal in December of this year, meaning the game will not be showcased at E3. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, however, will be playable at E3 this year.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 will be released in the Fall of 2016.

Quick Take

I still have no idea what is going on with the Kingdom Hearts series, but at the very least it seems like Square Enix is trying to get everyone up to speed on the storyline in time for Kingdom Hearts III. We shall see how popular Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 is in the end, I am sure it will do well for Kingdom Hearts fans, of course.
