Traditionally, after The Game Awards, there's usually a calmer post-show to show off more, and different fan games. Though this event has in past been PlayStation's PSX, this year we'll get to see something different. San Francisco based gamers Kinda Funny, members of Rooster Teeth’s Let’s Play network, have announced their first ever games showcase for December 8th, intending to fill the void in the absence of PSX. Over 60 games will be featured from a variety of developers, from AAA giants like Sega and Devolver Digital, to smaller indie publishers like DrinkBox Studios, Kitfox Games, Bithell Games, Outer Loop, FuturLab and Humble Bundle.
Starting at 10am PST on the Kinda Funny Twitch Stream, the event, billed as a digital conference, is scheduled to go for over an hour and will feature no sponsors, just games. Almost half a dozen titles are slated to be released during this window, though Kinda Funny has offered no details as to what games they are or which studios they’re from, giving the event an aura of mystery - as far as you can have for a games' showcase anyway.
Beyond the 60 titles though, nearly a half-dozen titles will be released during the event, meaning you'll be able to play them right away, something not commonly seen with these types of shows.
Said co-host Greg Miller “I’ve always loved how Geoff’s [Keighley’s] Game Awards dovetail with PlayStation’s PSX … The Game Awards take care of all the huge news, announcements, and trailers, and then PSX offers a lower key, fan / dev-focused event where other—often smaller—games can shine. With it taking 2018 off, we thought it would be a great opportunity to take it upon ourselves to offer game makers a platform to celebrate their work.”
