Update January 11th, 1:43pm: Another cast member for The Last of Us season 2 has been revealed, and this time, it's Dina's turn.

Isabela Merced, whose credits include Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the upcoming Madame Web, will play Ellie's partner in the second season of the critically-acclaimed show, according to another Max X post.

Update January 10th, 1:26pm: HBO has revealed another casting choice for The Last of Us season 2.

In a post on the Max X account, HBO announced earlier today that Young Mazino, who played Paul Cho in Netflix's Beef, will play Ellie's friend and Jackson patrol leader Jesse in the upcoming second season.

Original story follows below.

Original story: HBO has revealed who's going to be playing Abby in the upcoming second season of The Last of Us.

According to a post on the official Max X (formerly Twitter) account, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End actress Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby when the second season arrives.

She'll star alongside Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, both of whom will be reprising their roles for The Last of Us season 2.

Abby looking out over a post-apocalyptic city in The Last of Us Part II
The Last of Us' second season looks like it'll be following Part II's storyline.

If you haven't played The Last of Us Part II and you need a crash course on Abby, she's a vengeful soldier who's seeking revenge against Joel for something he did at the end of The Last of Us.

Abby is also embroiled in a conflict with the religious Seraphite order, one of the principal factions vying for control over post-apocalyptic Seattle.

She's one of the two playable characters in Part II (and now its extremely timely remake The Last of Us Part II Remastered) alongside former deuteragonist Ellie.

Whether the show will follow the narrative of The Last of Us Part II to the letter remains to be seen, but the presence of Abby suggests it'll hew to the same story beats, at the very least.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return as Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us season 2.

We don't have a release date for the second season of The Last of Us season 2 yet, but we do know that it's not arriving until 2025, so it'll be some time before we see Dever as Abby on our screens.

In the meantime, however, you can revisit The Last of Us Part II when the remastered version launches in January, complete with a brand new roguelike survival mode.

If you're hoping to check out the long-awaited The Last of Us multiplayer game, though, you're out of luck, since it officially got canned back in December.

Stay tuned for more news on all things The Last of Us.
