Almost a year after it was first announced, Heart Machine has released the very first Hyper Light Breaker gameplay trailer. It shows off a dynamic-looking take on the neon-soaked aesthetic of the Hyper Light universe, with high-octane combat and traversal seemingly the orders of the day.

After creating Hyper Light Drifter, the folks at Heart Machine set about making 3D platformer Solar Ash, which takes place in the same shared universe as the studio's first game. Now, Heart Machine is hard at work on Hyper Light Breaker, which was announced last March, and we're finally getting our first look at the gameplay courtesy of a brand new trailer.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the trailer looks like a 3D rendition of Hyper Light Drifter, albeit one with expanded gameplay systems and exploration. The player character can be seen exploring a diverse range of biomes and battling enemies in third-person melee combat. Exploration looks like a mixture of Solar Ash and Breath of the Wild; you'll get around on a sort of futuristic snowboard-type vehicle and also use a glider to soar through the air. You can check out the new Hyper Light Breaker gameplay trailer here, courtesy of IGN.

The trailer promises that Hyper Light Breaker will offer "infinite open worlds" to explore, and you'll be able to explore them either by yourself or alongside your friends in online co-op multiplayer. How you choose to engage in combat will be up to you; Hyper Light Breaker will also offer "infinite loadouts" to customize your character, but you'd better hope they're up to scratch, or you'll suffer the trailer's threatened "unlimited deaths". Yikes.

This new trailer also reveals a new Hyper Light Breaker release window. The game is scheduled to arrive on Steam in Early Access in fall 2023. The original date given was spring 2023, so this does represent a delay, but let's hope the extra time will help Heart Machine make the game as good as it can be. If you want to keep up with Hyper Light Breaker, you can wishlist it on Steam right now.
