The Living Doll and Fragile in Death Stranding 2: on The Beach

Following the new reveal of Death Stranding 2: on The BeachHideo Kojima himself has been offering more insight into several aspects of the game.

Today we hear more about the peculiar living doll who made his debut in the new trailer.

He has the likeness of director Fatih Akin, while the acting and voice are by Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus of Nazareth in The Chosen.

Kojima-san explained how the character came to be on his X (formerly Twitter) account, and talked more about what we can expect from him.

I have been friends with director Fatih Akin since he came to Japan for "In the Fade" (introduced thru Norman's wife, Diane Kruger) promotion and we had an interview for Japanese media outlet (2018).

At that time he told me he would love to become one of the characters in the game so I came up with a character for Fatih, a "living doll" to share the journey with Sam. His character is very energetic and funny, and despite his sadness, he supports Sam.

I already had a rough draft of the character design and setup before DS1 was released, but after experiencing the pandemic in real life, I decided to discard all the scenarios I had prepared before and rewrote them, but kept the "living doll" as it was. The voice and acting was done by JONATHAN ROUMIE, popular for his work on the TV drama "The Chosen".

Apparently, Kojima-san has also received many messages asking him to bring back Mads Mikkelsen's character Cliff in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Yet, he confirmed that the relevant character from the original Death Stranding won't return, and explained the reason why.

We have received many enthusiastic messages from you saying, "I want to see Cliff in DS2 too!”. However, Mads is not appearing in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

If you have PLAYED DS1 to the end, you will understand. Cliff is a character who played a very important and special role in Death Stranding. Mads understood this and performed it beautifully. Mads' Cliff will remain in the story of Death Stranding and in your memories forever.

It is because we care about the character of Cliff that he will not appear in DS2. Please understand.

Originally announced in December 2022Death Stranding 2: on the Beach has an official release window for PS5 in 2025.
