It seems that ConcernedApe's sophomore game Haunted Chocolatier will have boss battles, marking a significant departure from its predecessor Stardew Valley.

Haunted Chocolatier is the next game from Stardew Valley developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone. It was first revealed to the world late last year, but there's still a lot we don't know about this upcoming experience. Now, a new interview shows that there's a good chance boss battles will be a part of the game.

Haunted Chocolatier Boss Battles Might Include a Giant Bee

Haunted Chocolatier developer ConcernedApe sat down for an interview with Reason+, a music-making service that he apparently uses to make music for his games. While the interview largely focused on music, we did get to learn some details about his upcoming game.

As shown in this clip on Reddit (via Game Rant), one of the music tracks he showed off was titled "Bee Boss." We already know that bees are enemies in the game from a video in a late October 2021 blog post about the game. Combine these two elements and you have a good case for boss battles being in the game.

We already knew that ConcernedApe's next game is going to have a stronger emphasis on combat. Although Stardew Valley has quite a few dungeons (such as the new Volcano added in 1.5), there are no boss battles that you'll have to fight. It stands to reason that the greater emphasis on combat in his next game justifies the inclusion of fighting bosses.

Mind, that's not to say that this game will be completely different from Stardew Valley. While it will have a different gameplay focus, its developer is not going to cut features because they're too similar to his previous game.

"I can't help but think about Stardew Valley when I'm making this game," he said in the interview according to PC Gamer. "It'll manifest in ways like 'Oh, I can't do this. It's too much like Stardew Valley.' But then a lot of the things in Stardew Valley are the way they are because it just makes sense. It would be foolish to do it any other way."

There's still a ton that we don't know about this game. What kind of enemies you'll fight, how many boss battles there will be, and a boatload of other details are still up in the air. And, of course, anything and everything can change in the course of development -- there are no guarantees until the game is actually out. For now, you can keep an eye on Haunted Chocolatier by checking out its official website.
