Immortal Unchained

Immortal: Unchained, described by its developers as a "hardcore action-RPG shooter", is launching September 7th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Developed by Swedish studio Toadman Interactive, Immortal: Unchained is a third-person which "combines tactical combat with RPG mechanics and third-person shooting" to "deliver a unique and innovative experience inspired by the emerging hardcore action-RPG genre". Judging from screenshots, gameplay trailers and the game's closed alpha test earlier this year, the "hardcore action-RPG genre" seems to refer to Souls-style games a la Lords of the Fallen, The Surge and 2D titles like Salt and Sanctuary. The game was originally announced back in 2017, and a closed alpha was held in March 2018.

News of the game's release date was accompanied by a new "Chronicles" trailer, uploaded to the official Immortal: Unchained YouTube account. You can check out the trailer here:

The trailer goes into some of the game's backstory, as well as showing off its icy sci-fi aesthetic. In Immortal: Unchained, players will take control of "a living weapon, unleashed to stop the source of a cataclysmic event threatening to end all worlds". The game's narrative team includes The Witcher scribe Anne Toole, as well as Adrian Vershinin, whose previous credits include Killzone: Shadow Fall and Battlefield 1.

Gameplay-wise, Immortal: Unchained promises "tactical, up-close and personal action with a combination of ruthless gunplay and vicious melee combat" as players navigate a world in which "those that aren’t trying to kill [them] will instead try to use [them] to further their own agenda". Toadman describes its boss battles as "godlike clashes that will be remembered for eternity", in which players can utilize "vast possibilities of builds and weapon choices to find [their] own playstyle".

Publishing duties for this one are being handled by Sold Out, whose marketing director, Sarah Hoeksma, said that the game's "focus on brutal ranged combat" will make the game "stand out among this emerging, unforgiving genre". Sold Out's previous credits include Yoku's Island Express, Rogue Trooper Redux and Overcooked!: Special Edition.

If you're interested in Immortal: Unchained, the game can be yours for $49.99 on September 7th this year, when it launches for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
