I have a soft spot for mother animals in video games. Especially those that have to protect its young. Such is the case with Endling - Extinction is Forever, a game where you play as a mother fox trying to protect her young in a dystopian world.
With the world in ruins thanks to pollution and various creatures going extinct, there's not much left out there for whatever creatures manage to survive. This is a dilemma for a vixen trying to take care of her cubs. It'll be up to the player to try and guide the fox family to a safe haven, while avoiding poachers, traps, and hazards along the way. You also need to teach your cubs how to survive in this new world. As you perform actions the cubs will grow up and earn experience, which will translate to them learning skills both to help you out and keep themselves alive. However you need to be careful: if a cub dies, they're dead for good. There's no way to bring them back, something that's truly a tragedy.
Endling is being developed by Herobeat Studios, a relatively new studio based in Barcelona, Spain. It's being published by Handy Games, a branch of THQ Nordic that serves as a small and mid-scale publisher. Handy Games is also responsible for publishing games such as El Hijo, Lock's Quest, and mobile versions of games like This is the Police II, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, and Titan's Quest.
Endling - Extinction is Forever is set to come out on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2021.
