Very soon you can become one with the goo, as the highly anticipated traditional RTS launches in just over a month, on January 23rd 2015.
Grey Goo is based on a apocalyptic prediction that eventually we could be completely covered in goo. No really. The definition from Wikipedia states that Grey Goo "... is a hypothethical end-of-the-world scenario in which out-of-control self-replication robots consume all matter on Earth while building more of themselves." Truthfully, this sounds horrifying, and a great concept for an RTS.
Grey Goo is being made by Petroglyph Games, of which their founders helped create the original Command & Conquer. After moving on Westwood Studios and creating Petroglyph Games, they have made other well-received titles such as Star Wars: Empire at War and Universe at War.
Here is a blurb that describes Grey Goo, as well as it's three races and other features to the upcoming title.
What is Grey Goo?
Grey Goo is a real-time strategy game (RTS for short) with roots in classic strategy mechanics. Utilizing traditional base building as its core, the game aims to reinvent the modern standard of RTS gaming by placing emphasis on tactics over micro-management. By freeing players from having to issue hundreds of orders in a match, each decision is made more valuable and can mean the difference between victory and defeat. At the heart of Grey Goo lie three unique factions whose functionality and strategies vary significantly from one another. Whether it's the adaptive Beta, the impervious humans, or the unpredictable Goo, players are sure to find the play style they're looking for. Don't get too comfortable though. Skill with your preferred faction is no replacement for truly understanding your enemy.
Grey Goo also promises LAN play, a feature that for some reason has been in decline as of late. One can never have enough options as a PC gamer!
The game itself seems to give off a heavy StarCraft vibe, which can be easily seen in this Twitch livestream from a few weeks back.
Grey Goo will soon release in the new year, on January 23rd, 2015.
