Today Hong-Kong-based collectible manufacturer Gaming Heads published an "open letter to the Sony PlayStation collecting community" including some fairly serious allegations.
The manufacturer accuses the house of PlayStation to having ordered the destruction of all of its collectibles related to PlayStation brands including JAK 3, The Last of Us Part 2 Ellie, The Last of Us Ellie & Joel, Sly Cooper, and Kratos' statues and busts.
This would also affect collectible that have been already paid for by customers, which would not be shipped.
You can read the full "open letter" below.
Interestingly, Gaming Heads did not explain in any shape or form the motivation Sony may have provided for the decision, which is portrayed as completely unilateral.
The manufacturer also seems to be unwilling to commit to refunding customers directly, mentioning that they would "do what they can" but directing those who want their money back to ask PlayStation directly, providing the mail of Commercial Partnerships, Global Licensed Merchandise Group Manager Judy Ward, who allegedly took the decision.
According to Gaming Head, royalties have already been paid to Sony Interactive Entertainment, allegedly putting them in the hook for refunding customers.
That being said, many are responding in the comments on social media that even if Gaming Heads may indeed have paid royalties to Sony, they still kept most of the received payments.
Others are mentioning that whatever the case, it's Gaming Heads' responsibility to deal with Sony, not the customers'.
We're also seeing complaints about the manufacturer's production quality and long delays in the delivery of ordered products.
We have reached to both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Gaming Heads for comment but neither has responded. We will update this post if either shares anything relevant with us or makes any kind of additional public statement.
