Disney Dreamlight Valley studio Gameloft has announced a new project based on Wizards of the Coast's phenomenally popular tabletop IP Dungeons & Dragons.
According to an official Gameloft press release, the game will be set in the Forgotten Realms and will constitute a "unique" mixture of action-RPG, survival, and life sim gameplay.
There will be a focus on co-operative gameplay, and Gameloft says players should expect an adventure in which Dungeons & Dragons lore meets "real-time survival" in a campaign that promises "resilience, camaraderie, and danger at nearly every turn".
Gameloft executive producer Lee Kaburis says the game will be a "completely new experience" in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, and that more info will be available in the future.
Creative director Marc-Andre Deslongchamps says the as-yet-unnamed project will be appropriate for both "newcomers and tabletop masters", so you won't need to be a Dungeons & Dragons fanatic to enjoy it.

We're currently seeing something of a major resurgence for Dungeons & Dragons in popular culture, aided by shows like Stranger Things and Critical Role, as well as the huge success of CRPG Baldur's Gate 3.
On that note, Gameloft's project is just one of the many Dungeons & Dragons projects currently in development. We likely won't see Gameloft's game come to fruition this year, but there's plenty of D&D-themed goodness coming to whet your appetite this year.
Other projects in the works for the tabletop RPG include a new level 10-20 campaign named Vecna: Eve of Ruin, which takes you to locations as diverse as the Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and Planescape. That's in addition to The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons, a book that tells the history of the successful game.
Of course, Gameloft's game also isn't the only Dungeons & Dragons video game currently in the works. Payday 3 developer Starbreeze is also working on a live-service multiplayer D&D game, although it's unclear whether the studio's recent change in management will affect the timeline for that project.
