Blumhouse Productions has announced that a Five Nights at Freddy's movie sequel is officially in the works, which will almost certainly surprise absolutely nobody.

The studio confirmed the movie's existence in a post on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today, but didn't reveal much about the production other than a release window of next fall.

Additionally, Blumhouse shared an image on its Instagram which shows visual effects studio Jim Henson's Creature Shop working on what looks like a Five Nights at Freddy's skeleton. The person working on the skeleton is wearing a T-shirt featuring FNAF animatronic Springtrap.

The Five Nights at Freddy's phenomenon continues.

Back in January, Josh Hutcherson, the star of the first FNAF movie, confirmed that work on a sequel was underway, but given that Blumhouse development VP Ryan Turek said at the time that the sequel hadn't been greenlit, this post is the first official confirmation we've had that FNAF 2 is definitely happening.

Of course, given that the first movie was made on a budget of around $20 million and went on to make around $291 million for Blumhouse probably didn't hurt in getting the sequel greenlit.

It looks like Hutcherson will also be returning to star in the upcoming second Five Nights at Freddy's movie. In the Variety story in which he technically broke the news of the sequel's existence in January, he also said he was "dying to get back on set", so if you're a Josh Hutcherson fan, you're in luck.

Hope you're ready to get jumpscared all over again.

Similarly, we're not sure what kind of narrative direction the second Five Nights at Freddy's movie will take. The first movie followed the events of the inaugural FNAF fairly closely, but it took a few liberties, so we can likely expect a similar treatment for the sequel.

We'll likely find out more about the second Five Nights at Freddy's movie in due course. The franchise isn't lying dormant in the gaming space, either, despite creator Scott Cawthon's retirement; a new pixel horror game based on the novella Into the Pit is seemingly in the works at developer Mega Cat Studios.

Stay tuned for more news on all things Five Nights at Freddy's.
