Developer Type-Moon has announced that a Fate/stay night remaster is launching in the West, bringing the Japanese visual novel overseas for the first time.

Per a post on the official Fate/stay night Remastered X (formerly known as Twitter) account, the remaster will launch on PC and Nintendo Switch sometime this year.

Type-Moon says the remaster will be based on "the original PlayStation Vita title Fate/stay night Réalta Nua", and will be available in both English and Simplified Chinese.

Fate/stay night is finally heading West.

As the Fate/stay night Remastered announcement trailer says, this is the first game in the long-running Fate series, which has since spawned a number of games and related media.

These titles include cult JRPG Fate/Extra CCC, which was recently translated by a group of dedicated fans, as well as last year's popular action-RPG Fate/Samurai Remnant.

Fate/stay night, however, is a different kettle of fish; it's a visual novel rather than an RPG, revolving around making decisions and following branching plotlines.

Fate/stay night tells the story of teenage boy Shirou Emiya, who is entered into an ancient tournament against his will.

When he accidentally sees two warriors fighting to the death at his school, he's saved from death by a heroine known as Saber, who's also the main focus of one of the game's three narrative routes.

The other two revolve around gifted mage Rin Tohsaka and soft-spoken student Sakura, both of whom are swept up in the drama of the Fifth Holy Grail War.

There's no release date for Fate/stay night Remastered yet, nor do we know exactly what enhancements it will come with, if any.

We do know, however, that this isn't the only Type-Moon visual novel coming West for the first time this year; legendary title Tsukihime is also arriving sometime this year as Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon.

Stay tuned for more on this one as soon as we get it.
