Epic has revealed some statistics for the Epic Games Store throughout 2023, and it turns out that PC gamers sure did spend a lot of money on the store last year.
According to Epic's stats, gamers spent $950 million on the Epic Games Store last year, which is around $130 million more than last year's total. Third-party spending, however, is down on 2022, with $310 million being spent on third-party games in 2023 as opposed to 2022's $355 million.
In December, Epic enjoyed 75 million monthly active users, an increase of 10% on December 2022's 67 million. No doubt those numbers were bolstered by the immense success of Fortnite projects like Lego Fortnite and Rocket Racing.
Epic offered 86 free games throughout 2023, 17 of which were part of the storefront's holiday celebrations. Almost 586 million free games were claimed throughout the year, and the average score across those games was 75%.
It won't shock you to learn that Genshin Impact was among the most popular Epic Games Store titles by "player spend and engagement" in 2023. It's part of Epic's Mythic tier alongside Rocket League, Dead Island 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Fortnite.
The Legendary tier, meanwhile, features FIFA 23, Red Dead Redemption 2, Alan Wake 2, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and Hogwarts Legacy.
One more tier, appropriately named "Epic", contains the following games: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, EA Sports FC 24, Cyberpunk 2077, Honkai: Star Rail, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Dying Light, Fall Guys, Civilization VI, Dead by Daylight, and Destiny 2.
To conclude its post, Epic also looks forward to what's coming to the Epic Games Store in 2024.
Features planned for this year include a completely new download manager, as well as improvements to the store's offline mode, social features, and more. Epic is also planning to introduce support for third-party subscription services within the Epic Games Store in 2024.
