Today is a banner day for strategy RPG fans — Disciples: Liberation has been announced as a new beginning for the dark fantasy game, coming to PC and consoles later in 2021.
The Disciples franchise first began more than 20 years ago, dropping players into a dark fantasy world filled with mighty warriors and mages. You had to manage a capital city, research spells, recruit units, and defeat your enemies in turn-based combat. Now, Disciples is coming back more than two decades after it was first revealed to the world!
Check out the Disciples: Liberation Announcement Trailer and maybe you'll be as hyped as I am for the return of this franchise! (Do note that Kalypso Media's trailer is slightly longer than the one embedded below, ostensibly due to the inclusion of age-restricted content.)
You'll have your choice of four different classes, making choices throughout the story that will influence the fate of civilization. As with the previous games, you'll also ahve to manage a base and recruit more than 50 different kinds of units.
Disciples: Liberation promises to deliver an 80+ hour campaign with more than 270 quests according to a press release. The game will have a total of five unique endings. Multiplayer fans need not worry, either — the game will have 2-player online skirmishes, too!
"Disciples: Liberation marks a new beginning for the franchise, allowing players to explore a richly detailed dark fantasy world, fight foul beasts in intricate turn-based combat, take on hundreds of unique quests and foster relationships with an assortment of in-world factions: from a human empire tinged by religious extremism to the dark forces of the undead lead by a mad queen," read the press release. "Alliances forged, players can build an army and trade hard-earned resources for an assortment of upgrades to their home base. No choice is without consequence and depending on decisions and political alignments, one wrong move could see a deadly domino effect, irrevocably changing the course of their story."
When is the Disciples: Liberation Release Date?
The Disciples: Liberation release date will be sometime in Q4 2021; that means it will arrive on or after October 1, 2021.
Apply for the Disciples: Liberation Closed Alpha Today!
8+ months is certainly quite the way to play this revival of a classic franchise, but a tiny handful of fortunate people will get to play the game's alpha next month! You can apply to participate in the alpha on the game's official website, but be warned — only 200 people in total will get the chance to play the Disciples: Liberation alpha from March–April 2021.
Either way, Disciples: Liberation should arrive on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S sometime later this year. For now, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam.
