As crazy as this article is to write nearly two years after the game's initial release, Cyberpunk 2077 sales have seemingly skyrocketed after the release of the anime adaptation via Netflix. This took even the developers by surprise and actually feels quite wholesome.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released on Steam on December 9, 2020, and though it had a big jump in sales at the time of launch, the purchases slowly dwindled down faster than anticipated. Why was this? One of the main causes was the game's premature release, resulting in a... less than optimal product at launch. Another major factor was the game's incompatibility with current-gen consoles. Nearly two years later, Cyberpunk 2077 is now one of the most played single-player games on Steam as of today.

If you look at the SteamDB page (as of right now), you will see Cyberpunk 2077 ranked as number four of the most played Single-player games on the platform, with 78,478 downloads in the last 24 hours. This is a significant increase from what we saw even just a month ago, as the game only had around 16,000 players total. This insane increase in sales is due to a few factors of course. One of which is that as of right now, the game is on sale for 50% off. The game is usually $59.99, but right now you can add it to your library for just $29.99.

The Quest Director of Cyberpunk 2077, Paweł Sasko, noticed a Tweet by Benji-Sales, which stated,

"It keeps climbing. Cyberpunk 2077 hit 85,555 concurrent players on Steam today the highest it's been since early January 2021 near launch Amazing CD Projekt have been able to capitalize on Netflix Adaptations with increased sales not once but TWICE now with Cyberpunk and Witcher"

In response, Paweł Sasko retweeted the post and said thank you to the fans for the second chance.

The next factor is the latest release of the Netflix animated series "Cyberpunk Edgerunners". The series was well received, and those who have previously played the game realized that they wanted to venture back into Night City one more time.  More so, there is an expansion that is headed to the game in 2023 called Phantom Liberty, and the gameplay trailer does make it look a bit worthwhile.
