Players battle fire in Embr

Curve Digital has snagged the rights to publish Guns of Icarus Online developer Muse Games' upcoming firefighting "sim" Embr. It's a satirical look at the gig economy coming to Steam Early Access sometime in spring.

Embr asks you to imagine a world in which "emergencies are handled by people on the street". Butchers, teachers, and other workers supplement their income by driving ambulances and putting out fires. Team lead Howard Tsao describes Embr's world as a hyper-capitalist alternate universe in which venture capitalism completely rules the roost. You can check out the official reveal trailer for Embr right here:

In Embr, you and your online buddies will take the role of Embr Respondrs, firefighters contracted by the public to put out fires. You'll need to work together with your friends to ensure you get the coveted 5-star rating at the end of a job. The more stars and cash you earn, the more you'll be able to upgrade your gear. Eventually, you'll work your way up to being the best venture capitalist e-hailed firefighter the world has ever seen (and there's stiff competition in Embr's world).

Gameplay-wise, Muse describes Embr as an "unsimulator". You and your friends will work through a variety of missions, working together in dense environments packed full of complex systems interacting with one another. Muse is promising that water, fire, gas, electricity, and structural integrity will all have a role to play in your eventual success or hilarious failure. Embr essentially looks like a mixture of "unsims" like Goat Simulator and I Am Bread crossed with Burning Rangers, and we're down for that.

You'll be able to get your hands on Embr via Steam Early Access sometime this spring. Muse says you can expect regular content drops in the weeks and months after the game is launched. The studio also says it'll be working closely with fans to address feedback and implement suggestions. We'll bring you more on this game as and when we get it.
