With Sid Meier's Civilization hitting its 25th anniversary this year, it is perhaps of little surprise that Firaxis and 2K are taking the opportunity to celebrate that milestone as Sid Meier's Civilization VI comes out this fall.

With a limited print run of 20,000 copies world-wide, the Sid Meier's Civilization VI 25th Anniversary Edition is a physical version of the game that has some interesting goodies and value to go with it. So what do you get in the box?

  • The game and the four post-launch DLC/expansions planned for it. Also includes the 25th Anniversary Digital Soundtrack.
  • Premium 25th Anniversary packaging
  • An Exclusive 25th Anniversary commemorative coin set with display case
  • "Civilization Through the Years" a 100-Page hardcover art book
  • Pre-Order Early Access to the Aztec Civilization Pack

This will come to you for the price of $89.99 US, which is $10 more than the Civilization VI Digital Deluxe Edition.

Civilization 6 Anniversary Edition

Sid Meier, the director of creative development at Firaxis, had this to say about Civilization VI and the anniversary:

"The vitality of Civilization is in the new ideas that each design team brings to the game as well as the passion and feedback from an incredible community. We hope players enjoy the vibrant living world and the new features the team has created in this latest offering. I’m proud of the work they’ve done, and I hope you will enjoy playing Civilization VI as much as they’ve enjoyed making it. Here’s to the next 25 years!"

Sid Meier's Civilization VI will launch on October 21st, on PC exclusively for $59.99 with a $79.99 Digital Deluxe edition also available, which includes the DLC and soundtrack.

Quick Take

This looks like a pretty good deal for a special anniversary edition, without some of the gouging you sometimes see. Physical releases of PC games are becoming rarer, and it is nice to see one—especially nice to see a company take the time to celebrate some of its history, unlike some companies that are ignoring it at times, like Nintendo with Metroid.
