During the Mega Man 30th Anniversary livestream on CapcomUnity, Capcom have announced a new entry in the mainline Mega Man series. Sporting modern visuals and new suit transformations to go with each boss weapon, Mega Man 11 will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC in late 2018.

The game will be directed by Koji Oda, a long-time developer at Capcom who has worked on the Resident Evil series, Ghosts 'n Goblins, and the most recent Strider. Rather than staying with the classic pixel art of Mega Man 9 and 10, the art direction will be a modern 3D design which draws heavily on the design aesthetic from the 2D series.

The new Mega Man was originally teased in some of the behind the scenes materials included with the Mega Man Legacy Collection series. This includes and example of the new transformations that Mega Man will take when he absorbs a new boss power.

Quick Take

Mega Man fans have been suffering from an extreme drought ever since the cancellation of Mega Man Universe several years ago. After the false start of Mighty No. 9, I saw a lot of lost hope amongst the fanbase. Many went into the 30th anniversary stream expecting nothing but rereleases, so it's great to see Capcom overdelivering and bringing back their signature franchise.
