Today Activision and Sledgehammer Games announced the release date of the first season of their recently released first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
According to the announcement made on X (formerly Twitter), we learn that Season 1 will launch on December 6, promising "new maps, a ton of content, and more."
The developers also shared that the game has recorded the highest player engagement of the Modern Warfare trilogy.
To explain the "highest engagement" metric, we hear that players have been playing more hours on average than in the previous two Modern Warfare games.
The same applies specifically to the single-player campaign, while the game's Zombies mode is also the most engaging third mode in Modern Warfare history.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is currently available for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game has taken the top spot in the UK boxed charts at launch, but was dethroned by Hogwarts Legacy the following week.
Interestingly, the game might come to Game Pass at some point following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, but we already know that it won't happen before next year.
Another interesting aspect of the acquisition is that the franchise will land on Nintendo consoles, but it's likely too late for Modern Warfare 3, and we'll probably see this pledge realized with the next game of the series.
That being said, despite the acquisition, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer mentioned that players on both Sony and Nintendo consoles can rest easy, and should feel "100% part of the community."
He also pledged that Microsoft's goal is to achieve "100% parity across all platforms" as much as possible for launch and content, doing away with the usual small but potentially annoying exclusives that have plagued the series for a long time.
