Demon's Souls is an incredibly important game. It started one of the most popular genres of gaming - the Soulslike. PS5 owners will be in for a treat - Demon's Souls is coming back, and it's looking better than ever.

Announced during Sony's Future of Gaming Show, a new version of Demon's Souls is on the way. Although we were met with just beautiful visuals in a cool trailer, we can assume it is either a complete remake or remaster of the original. We know that FromSoftware isn't the lead developer on this one. Bluepoint Games, a developer known for remakes such as Shadow of the Colossus, is taking the helm.

There's not a lot of details right now, but according to the trailer's description, there will be a new "Fractured Mode." In Fractured Mode, players are able to tune the graphics to focus on the detail and overall look of the visuals, or focus on an excellent frame rate. It's likely that there is just a standard option that is a happy medium between the two, but for those who are Soulslike fanatics, you might benefit from having some extra frames.

There is no release date yet, but for now we know this is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. There is no news on the rumored Bloodborne PC port or any extra details on FromSoftware's highly anticipated Elden Ring.

Quick Take

I'm most interested in seeing what Fractured Mode has to offer. I discussed this with the team and one of them mentioned that it sounds like we can choose between 4k at 30 FPS or 1080p at 60 FPS. This is all just speculation, of course. Either way, it's something that has slowly been making its way into the console base with the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. I like to customize my experience with graphics, so hopefully consoles continue down this route.
