Don't Nod has released a brand new story trailer for its upcoming action RPG Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, setting up the game's tragic world and history.
The game was originally set to launch in November 2023, but was subsequently delayed by Don't Nod in order to avoid a crowded release period and give the emotionally-charged RPG a little room to breathe.
In the new trailer, we're introduced to main characters Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith, who are "Banishers": hunters who protect the living world from ghosts.
When tragedy strikes and Antea is killed, she finds herself in the spirit world, and a series of painful choices lie ahead of her and Red.
One of the core conceits of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is the choice between sticking to your Banisher ideals or sacrificing the living to bring Antea back to life, and the trailer features Red and his partner agonizing over that very decision.
As you'd probably imagine, the trailer sets the story up rather than giving anything away; Banishers will be a narrative-driven experience, after all, so Don't Nod likely doesn't want to spoil anything ahead of release.
If you're not familiar with Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, it's a story-driven action RPG from Life is Strange and Vampyr developer Don't Nod.
You'll play as both main characters, using their abilities to do battle with ghosts and other beasties. As you play, you'll also unlock new abilities to help you fight the dead more effectively.
This being a Don't Nod game, you can also look forward to "meaningful and morally ambiguous choices", as the studio puts it, and they'll affect "the story, the world, and the fate of all characters, dead or alive".
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 13th.
