Backwards Compatibility for Xbox One has changed the way that they release meaning that instead of bulk games being announced they are now being announced one by one as they become available. At the end of each month now there will be a round up not only stating what the game is but also a little bit about the game. In the most recent update to the Xbox One you're also now able to purchase these Xbox 360 titles on your Xbox One.
An action adventure horror game by Remedy Entertainment, developers of Max Payne, these titles are coming to Back Compat as preorder bonuses with their new title Quantum Break. In these games you will play as the novelist Alan Wake as you attempt to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of your wife. The game plays out like a thriller tv show with six episodes as a part of the main game and two extra episodes as DLC. American Nightmare however serves as an in-universe spinoff taking place instead in a Twilight Zone styled tv show called "Night Springs" that appeared throughout the original Alan Wake game.
The first in the popular series of open world action adventure games from Ubisoft you take up the mantle as the Master Assassin Altair. It's on this journey you discover that this crusade isn't just threatening your Holy Land but the entire world. You will have to use all kinds of skills as an assassin to plan your attack and strike from the shadows. Assassin's Creed is joining the Back Compat list after Assassin's Creed II arrive on the Xbox One as one of the first available titles.
Relive the classic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on your Xbox One in HD with achievements and more. Symphony of the Night was originally released on the PlayStation back in 1997 to incredibly positive reviews. You play as Alucard, the son of Dracula, as you search through the castle to find and kill Dracula. Unlike prior Castlevania titles in Symphony of the Night you are able to learn shape shifting abilities and pick up a variety of weapons to use against the undead that roam the halls.
Technically the second title in the Souls series from FromSoftware and a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls on the PlayStation 3. This third person action RPG focuses around the exploration of the world of Lordran. Your character is a cursed undead who needs to make a pilgrimage out of the Undead Asylum to discover what happened to the Undead. If you like hard games, then you've probably already picked this one up, but now you're able to play it once again on your Xbox One. Dark Souls has been added to the Back Compat lineup in anticipation of Dark Souls III releasing in the west on the 12th of April.
Welcome to a hostile world filled with aliens, big guns and plenty of mystery to uncover. You play as a cargo pilot called William Augustus Grey who, with the help of Nikola Tesla, will use this alien technology against them to save all the other survivors that are also trapped in the void. In Dark Void you are able to participate in dog fights attached to jet-packs and mow down waves of enemies on the ground.
The follow up to Race Driver: Grid, in this game you are able to head to locations all around the world to compete in a variety of racing events. With motor vehicles from a total of four different decades you can use the "TrueFeel" system to find the perfect balance between realism and accessibility in this racing game. You will race in the World Series Racing in a variety of race types to win all kinds of fame, fortune, and most importantly cars.
Based in the Halo universe unlike the other shooters in the franchise Halo Wars is a strategy game where you get to take control of UNSC units and roll them out into battle. You are a part of the "Spirit of Fire" crew and you've been tasked, as always, to take on the covenant forces. This game is the last of the Halo titles to be added to the Xbox One library and is being added in anticipation of the release of Halo Wars 2 which will be releasing later on this year.
The fifth game in the King of Fighters franchise KOF '98 was originally released on the Neo Geo with the updated Ultimate Match coming out 10 years after the original release for the PlayStation 2. Though KOF '98 does not have a story it was because of this that characters such as Rugal, who had died in a previous installment was able to return. The Ultimate Match update also included additional characters, new moves, new stages and a new fighting style called "Ultimate." Among many fans KOF '98 is regarded to be the best due to its game play.
Following the success of Left 4 Dead by Valve Left 4 Dead 2 came out quickly after providing the same style of team based zombie killing fun. Following a new set of survivors Coach, Nick, Rochelle, and Ellis they have to cross all kinds of wild scenarios to try to get to somewhere safe. In this game you come across abandoned hospitals, swamps, and even zombie infested carnival grounds. Some updates to the original Left 4 Dead include melee weapons that can replace your pistols, and a system calles "AI Director 2.0" that will adjust the scenario depending on how well you're going to provide a dynamic challenge.
This is a game that needs no introduction as you take control of the original yellow disc. You load up a familiar map and do what you can to stay away from the ghosts while collecting all of the Pac-Dots. Once you're finished the level you get to start again, but each time the ghosts get a little bit harder.
Based on the title released in the arcades and on the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and original Xbox it's now available of Xbox One. This HD port of Soul Calibur II includes all of the game modes from the original and allows you to play as both Heihachi Mishima, from Tekken, and Spawn. The one character that is missing from Soul Calibur II HD is Link from The Legend of Zelda. This game has local multiplayer as well as an online mode so you don't need to worry about inviting your friends over.
