In a recent devblog it has just been announced that The Anacrusis, a cooperative sci-fi FPS like Left 4 Dead, is launching on Steam's Early Access and other platforms on January 13, 2022. It's being developed and published by Stray Bombay, a company co-founded by former Valve writer Chet Faliszek and Riot designer Kimberly Voll.

Like Left 4 Dead and the recently-released Back 4 Blood, four players will be working together to survive by shooting hundreds of different AI-controlled units. What's different about The Anacrusis is its sci-fi setting and how its set on a "massive starship stranded at the edge of explored space." Players will be able to unlock perks, weapons, and new ways to play that can be shared with their team.

In the devblog, Faliszek mentioned why Stray Bombay is launching on Steam's Early Access rather than hosting a private Beta or something similar:

We want to be able to have these conversations with people in the community playing our game, getting real feedback, and trying some things. And that's really important, is we want to put content in early so that we can get feedback, so essentially beta content. Often what people do is make special beta servers to do that, but what that means is you only have the really hardcore playing it, not the kind of casual player and we want to get everybody's feedback, and so to do that we thought early access was the best format for that.

That makes sense. What also makes sense is what The Anacrusis is, which is a sci-fi take on a genre that's primarily been focused on zombies. It has a 60's sci-fi vibe to it but the same underlying foundation where an AI Driver controls every aspect of the game. What that means is that every enemy is spawned, each boss is directed, and every weapon, gadget, and health kit is placed down by this AI Driver.

You'll use fantastical weapons (as expected from a sci-fi FPS) such as a stasis grenade to slow down time or a Respawner to bring your friends back to life. You'll need it because there's a lot of aliens to kill.

The Anacrusis will release on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, and the Microsoft Store on January 13, 2022. For more information, stay tuned to TechRaptor.
