Atlus USA is bringing The Alliance Alive, a JRPG inspired by Ultima and Wizardry, to the West on March 27th, 2018. Developed by Cattle Call, The Alliance Alive aims to capture the "classic JRPG spirit" in both mechanics and art style. Cattle Call previously worked on The Legend of Legacy with both Grezzo and Furyu, the latter of which published The Alliance Alive in Japan. Atlus's announcement also revealed details of the launch edition, which will come with an artbook, a CD soundtrack, and a keychain. The Alliance Alive will cost $39.99 when it launches on March 27th, 2018 for the 3DS.

The Alliance Alive is centered around a group of humans and Daemons who are fighting to overthrow a tyrannical empire. After the Daemons invaded the human realm 1000 years ago, their powerful energy brought about massive catastrophes and changed the landscape permanently. With the four continents separated by a mass of demonic energy, the Night Crows resistance group aims to return humanity to an era of freedom. Much like in The Legend of LegacyThe Alliance Alive features extensive "chibi" graphics and turn-based battles spread out across a massive, colorful world.

The Alliance Alive sees Cattle Call reunite much of the team from The Legend of Legacy. Aside from the original staff composer Masashi Hamauzu, noted for his work on the SaGa series and recent Final Fantasy games, rejoined the team. The scenario was written by Yoshitaka Murayama, the creator of the Suikoden series, and his work here marks his first game in nearly 11 years. While director Masataka Matsuura would have liked to develop a sequel to The Legend of Legacy, he felt that the hardware could not adequately support his artistic vision, and opted for a different direction instead. While it may be visually the same style, we'll know just how different The Alliance Alive is when it releases next year for the 3DS on March 27th, 2018.

Quick Take

With the director's comments in mind, it seems as though Cattle Call and others might aim for a successor to The Legend of Legacy to appear on the Switch. While Cattle Call's next game is a reboot of the Metal Max franchise, it seems that Cattle Call might have other plans on the horizon. Either way, we'll keep an eye on their upcoming projects.
