Sam Gideon, a smart-mouthed bad boy with a smoking problem, is the last resort of the United States. The Russian Federation has been overthrown, and the leaders of the coup d'état threaten to blast New York City into smithereens using the U.S.'s own space station, which has been providing solar energy as an alternative energy source.
Armed with the Augmented Reaction Suit (ARS), Sam can jet boost his way across the battlefield, dodging bullets and rockets alike while providing equally lethal firepower in return with the experimental Battlefield Logic Adaptable Electronic Weapons System (BLADE), a system capable of scanning any existing weapon and transforming it into a perfect replica.
