The Mortuary Assistant is a nightmare-inducing horror game developed by DarkStone Digital and published by DreadXP that puts you into the shoes of a mortuary assistant.
The game starts off quite normal, having you perform the daily tasks of the said mortuary assistant. Now, though the game starts off pretty subtle with the scares, it is still not for the faint of heart. You will be performing tasks such as draining the bodies of their blood and replacing it with embalming fluid. You will need to wire the cadavers' jaws shut, glue down their eyelids, and even check them for bruises and contusions. So if stuff like that makes your skin crawl just by thinking about it, this may not be the game for you.
Once you begin your job at River Fields Mortuary, you get the sense that something isn't quite right. Soon, you notice dark figures lurking in the shadows, the doors of the morgue slamming open and closed repeatedly, and even hear voices telling you awful things. This is when you realize that this is no ordinary night job, but a living nightmare that only you have the power to escape from. The mortician then gives you a call and lets you know that yes, the rumors about River Fields Mortuary are true and now you are trapped inside the building until the deed is done.
Not only do you have to finish prepping all of the bodies, but you must also keep the demonic forces at bay by performing rituals and solving the main puzzle of the game; you must determine which body has been possessed by an evil spirit. There will be signs and sigils scattered around that you must find in order to obtain clues as to which body has been overtaken. Using those clues, you will need to take the necessary steps to banish the evil that has engulfed the mortuary once and for all -- or -- give in and become the evil you once fought to destroy.
