Tactical turn-based strategy game Skulls of the Shogun is coming to Nintendo Switch next month.
Skulls of the Shogun casts you as legendary Japanese soldier General Akamoto. Betrayed and killed during an epic battle, Akamoto awakens to find himself in the afterlife. The traitor who betrayed him is also dead, so Akamoto sets out to get revenge and restore his good name. You must amass an army of undead minions to help Akamoto take back what’s rightfully his and earn the respect he deserves. Check out the rather adorable trailer for Skulls of the Shogun below:
Gameplay-wise, Skulls of the Shogun is a tactical turn-based strategy game. Developer 17-BIT Studios describes the game as “a love letter” to games like Advance Wars. There are 24 levels to master, each of which features its own unique combination of enemies to overcome. Each enemy has unique abilities and skills, but so do your troops. You’ll have to balance good tactical decision-making with quick thinking if you want to prevail. If you’ve got some friends who are also into tactical turn-based games, Skulls of the Shogun also supports multiplayer for up to 4 players. All this comes complete with a fun little yarn about the underworld with a pretty strong sense of humor.
The Switch is getting Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-a-Fide Edition, which packs in a bunch of new content. There’s a new island, some new missions to enjoy, and a new unit in the form of the Tanuki Monk. The Monk specializes in shifting the battlefield around and disrupting your enemies. There are also six extra multiplayer maps based on the single-player levels. Plenty to get your teeth stuck into if you’re looking to grab it on Switch.
Skulls of the Shogun lands on Nintendo Switch on July 11th. The game will set you back $19.99 on release. Make sure you clear up the required 1GB of space on your console before you download it!
