TR Member Perks!

Welcome to Shoestring Gaming, the weekly segment where we try to help you find some great games to play for some really great prices. This week on Shoestring we’re taking the theme of arcade games, so we have a couple of run and guns and 2D fighters that are cheap this week for you to try out. On top of that, there’s also the chance to get a free game as well so be sure to check that out!

Metal Slug 3

Enjoy the arcade classic from the comfort of your home

First up is a 50% discount on both Metal Slug 3 and Metal Slug X over at Steam. Metal Slug is a series of games made by SNK that are side-scrolling run and gun shooters where you follow the story of four soldiers as you fight enemy soldiers and sometimes even supernatural forces. Metal Slug 3 and X for Steam gives you all the arcade goodness, as well as including a multiplayer online mode so if a friend has the game then you can play with them online. This is not the only way to play this great game with friends, because it also supports local coop. While you might be starting on a beach in Metal Slug 3, you have no clue where you’ll end up. Along with tight controls, both of these games also have fantastic smooth pixel graphics that make you feel like you never left the arcade.

BlazBlue

If fast-paced 2D fighters are for you, then this is your game

Over at the next arcade cabinet there are big deals with 75% off BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger and 50% off BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extendedthe first and second entry into the BlazBlue franchise of 2D fighters. In BlazBlue, the rules are simple: you reduce your opponents health to zero or you have more health when the clock runs out – the only problem is what you do to get there. The BlazBlue games all have fast-paced, high resolution action as you can pick one of many characters, all with their own fight style and take on enemies as you progress and get better. If you don’t want to just face the computer, then there is also local and online multiplayer in both of these games. The extended version of Continuum Shift gives you all of the content from the base game, including all DLC characters and even adds two more on top of that.

Chip

Solve puzzles in this cute indie title

Finally, over at indiegala they are giving away game codes for Chip, a game where it’s up to you to help power up Chip, the robot. In this isometric puzzle game you have to angle mirrors and other objects so that firing your cannon can lead the blob of energy all the way to Chip.3

What do you think of this week’s selection? Are there any games that you have gotten recently for a good deal?

I have been playing all kinds of games for as long as I can remember with a particular interest in action adventure and platforming titles. While I am primarily an Xbox gamer I also spend a fair bit of time on the PS4 and on my PC in VR.
