Welcome to Shoestring gaming, a weekly segment where we show off some great gaming deals so that you can buy some great games while still working on a shoestring budget. This week there are some great deals going on from Steam, GoG, Humble Bundle and TechRaptor’s GameFanShop.

Steam currently has 194 sales currently going on with such great games as Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth, SpeedRunners and Mousecraft.

Competitive 4 player fun, just don’t expect to retain friendships!

SpeedRunners is a fast paced game you can play with up to three of your friends. In this game it is your goal to run, jump, swing and use various weapons and power-ups to knock your opponents off screen. Currently this game is in early access and has such features as 9 full levels to play in, up to four players local or online support, full (and recommended) controller support, the use of bots in case you don’t have friends to play with and a full level editor so that you can create, share or download other peoples creations so that you never run out maps to run on. SpeedRunners is currently 75% off for $2.49 and if you want to share in the joy of the game with friends then you can get the 4 pack for $7.49, this is a midweek deal so it will only be available for a short amount of time.

Volgarr the Viking

I’m showing you a shot of this level because you probably won’t get anywhere near it… sorry

Over at GOG you can currently download Volgarr the Viking for $2.99. Volgarr the Viking is a game with simple controls to learn but difficult to master. It will bring players back to such challenging retro games as Ghouls and Goblins where it’s through trial and error, and a LOT of error, that you will progress through this game. This game also features fantastic handcrafted pixel animations and a soundtrack of epic proportions. If you get this game you will be pulling your hair out through 30 different maps with plenty of unique traps, interesting monsters and incredible boss fights.

Humble Star Wars Bundle

From a digital distributor far far away…. comes some really awesome games!

For fans from galaxies far far away the Humble Star Wars Bundle is currently being sold this week. The Humble Star Wars Bundle gives you Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and Star Wars: Dark Forces for any amount of money that you want to put in. If you pay more than the average, which at the time of writing is $11.35, you can also get Star Wars Battlefront II, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Star Wars Republic Commando. If you want to put up just a bit more money for the flat payment of $12 you can get all of the games as well as Star Wars Empire at War: Gold Pack, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition and Star Wars The Force Unleashed II. That’s a total of 9 fantastic Star Wars games for the low price of $12, and Humble Bundle is saying that there are more Star Wars games that are going to be added to the Humble Bundle before the end of the week so if you’re a fan of Star Wars then this might be the Humble Bundle for you.

Trials Fusion

Enjoy the game as it eases you in and then chews you up and spits you out!

Starting today at the TechRaptor GameFanShop up until the 8th of February you will be able to purchase Trials Fusion for 50% off. Trials Fusion is the third game in the physics based Trials franchise which puts players in the shoes of a motorbike rider whose goal is to reach the end of a level on a set path, if that seems simple then you also need to know that the further you progress the more and more difficult the stages become employing less speed and more technical skill as you strive to get better and better. Even for the skilled Trials players the extreme tracks can still be very challenging. Trials Fusion also has competitive multiplayer that pits you up against three other riders to try to get to the goal as quickly as possible.

What do you think of this weeks deals? Are there any games that you’re planning on picking up? Are there any big deals that I’ve missed out on?

I have been playing all kinds of games for as long as I can remember with a particular interest in action adventure and platforming titles. While I am primarily an Xbox gamer I also spend a fair bit of time on the PS4 and on my PC in VR.
