You'll be able to play Red Dead Redemption 2 alongside a companion app, Rockstar has announced. The app will connect directly with your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, delivering interactable real-time information to your device. The app will be available on the game's launch day, October 26.

It'll allow you to bring your map and place waypoints, mark points of interest, pan and zoom, and more. You'll also allow you to check your journal, which protagonist Arthur Morgan will be making notes into as things happen around him.

One of the more interesting additions allows you to display Morgan's core info and stats in real-time on your device, allowing you to completely remove the in-game HUD from your TV if you like. It'll also include a full digital game manual and an optional digital version of the Complete Official Guide from Piggyback.

Check out these screenshots shown in the Rockstar blog post, which show off the game's map and journal.

This isn't the first time Rockstar has included a companion app alongside their games. Grand Theft Auto V had iFruit, a companion app that allowed players to teach Lamar's dog, Chop, tricks, customize their vehicles, tweak the game settings, and more. iFruit worked had hooks into Social Club, the online platform Rockstar has integrated into their games since GTA IV.

The companion app for Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available to download from the Apple store and Google Play store when the game launches.
